Alice Springs to Boulia   1. Alice Springs to Boulia

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The link between Central Australia and Outback Queensland is provided by the Plenty and Donohue Highways. This stretch of road was first built to allow cattle stations a means of transporting beef through road train access. Today, it is also a 'short-cut' for travellers from Boulia, Mt.Isa and other outback Queensland towns to get to Alice Springs and the 'Red Centre' in a more direct way. The Plenty/Donohue highways are a long pathway through open plains, cattle stations and aboriginal communities. Several rivers and creeks which form the channel country need to be crossed through this diversity of country from red sand and clay to bulldust and gravel.

Alice Springs to Yulara   2. Alice Springs to Yulara

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The area south of the West MacDonnell Ranges offers the travellers a unique vision of what the internationally known 'Red Centre' is all about. There is a wide ranging diversity of natural geographic formations, terrain and vivid colour contrasts between the vegetation, red sand and blue skies. The majority of this region now has sealed roads, but areas such as the Mereenie Loop, Finke Gorge National Park, Palm Valley, Owen Springs Reserve and the Ernest Giles Road, provide some interesting, if not challenging tracks for 4x4 adventurers. It is an amazing part of the Australian outback and a magnet for people from all over the world wanting to experience the real beauty of this region.

Anne Beadell Highway   3. Anne Beadell Highway

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Anne Beadell Highway was named by Len Beadell, after his wife's name, Anne. The track has become very rough with fearsome corrugations which have broken many 4WD springs and completely ruined many shock absorbers. The track runs from Coober Pedy to Laverton venturing through conservation parks and Aboriginal Land. Part of this area is the British Atomic Test site during the 1950's at Emu where two atomic bombs were exploded. The area is still barren. There are numerous small dunes to cross, interesting history and sites at Anne's Corner, Volkes Hill Corner, Serpentine Lakes and the border. Ilkurlka roadhouse is a welcome rest point offering a hot shower, supplies and fuel, with an aircraft wreck not far away, followed by Neales Junction. Len's markers and signs offer intriguing points of interest and a guiding path along the track.

Big Desert - Sunset Country   4. Big Desert - Sunset Country

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
This region of Victoria is a 4wd experience that encompasses everything from hard clay tracks to very soft sand driving; with many bog holes to bees. Some areas are quite remote and you may not see anyone all day then be confronted with a convoy of 4wd?s from a local club or various families driving their way around the many tracks. There are several campsites, many with toilets and water set up by rangers and monitored on a regular basis. You will cross open plains, claypans, country roads to demanding sand dunes with the occasional small township within the vacinity. There are the salt lakes at Rocket Lake and the Pink Lakes, including Lake Albacutya that remind you of the dry, harsh environment that is typical of this region, not to mention several ancient lake beds and swamps you track through. This is an amazing location shrouded in wildflowers during spring and offering ecosystems unique with wildlife.

Binns Track   5. Binns Track

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Binns Track, running from Mt.Dare Hotel in South Australia to Timber Creek in the Northern Territory, is a very long track through some of Australia's most diverse terrain. Adventurous 4 wheel drivers will endure everything from deep bull dust to bitumen, rocks to water crossings and travel through desert, hills, National Parks and townships. This track has everything. Be prepared. There will be plenty of bush camps and something new around every corner. There is an excellent contrast between open plains, mountain ranges and desert country that truely highlights the Outback in one complete package. 4WD skills and experience are advisable.

Birdsville Track   6. Birdsville Track

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
Driving the Birdsville Track is still one of the outback's great adventures. The track began during the 1880's as the main stock route from Birdsville to Marree. It is a gateway to the Corner Country, accessed via the Simpson Desert and renowned for the Diamantina river, Birdsville Hotel and the ever popular Birdsville Races. The diversity of country between the four deserts, Tirari, Strzelecki, Sturt Stony and Simpson contrasted by the wetlands of Clayton river, Cooper creek and Mungerannie, the hills at Mungerannie Gap and the steaming hot bores, highlights the imagination of life during the early pioneering days.

Cape York   8. Cape York

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Canning Stock Route runs from Wiluna to Halls Creek and is arguably the most remote track in Australia and one of the longest. The track traverses pristine Aussie deserts and has its fair share of rough corrugations, rocks and over 700 sand dunes. The majority of this area is now owned by the Aboriginal people and respect for their sacred locations and adherence to permit requirements is paramount. It is a major trip and one that demands thorough preparation and experience with 4x4 skills. There are 51 Wells, all of which need to be visited, but only a hand full have good water. The CSR is an experience any outback traveller should seek. It is an adventure, arduous and delightful, with many highlights, tragedies, unique terrain and colour. A must do.
DES08 $22.00 ea   Qty

Davies Plain Guide   9. Davies Plain Guide

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Davies Plain region is beautiful and challenging with extremes of weather and terrain requiring good 4wd skills. There are easy sections that allow you to roll along absorbing the wonderful surrounds, but short lived as steep climbs and descents have you reaching for low range and diff locks. There are several creek crossings, washouts, rocks and deadfall to impede your path, part and parcel of such a trek. The historic huts at Davies Plain and Tom Groggin remind you of the tenacity and determination of our early pioneers in such remote wilderness. The elevation of the ranges lead you into the clouds where both rain and wind can play havoc but the rewards with views across the sealing of the Alps are spectacular. This is a trek that demands your attention but gives you back what you put in.

Googs Track   10. Googs Track

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
Googs Track was built by 'Goog' and 'Dinger' Denton along with Denis Beattie (Jenny Denton's brother) from June 1973 through to August 1976. A mammoth task by men with a true pioneering spirit. The track today provides 4 Wheel drivers with a great means to seek adventure and experience a virtual 'mini' Simpson desert. Travelling over roughly 300 sand dunes climbing up to 25 metres, will test your driving skills with sand whilst taking in some pristine country through the Yumbarra Conservation Park and Yellabinna Regional Reserve. Googs Lake and Mt Finke offer popular camping locations with a relaxing environment. Although travel from South to North is recommended, this is a two-way track and drivers need to be aware of on-coming 4wds.

Great Central Road   12. Great Central Road

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Great Central Road, now part of ?The Outback Way?, not only offers travellers a short cut from the West to Central Australia but highlights the vast desert regions of this part of the country. Consisting mainly of Aboriginal Land, open country and spectacular mountain ranges, it has a rich heritage from early explorers such as Giles, Wells and Forrest and more recently with Len Beadell and his Gunbarrel Construction company. With the GCR slowly developing as a major pathway, having some sections of sealed road already in place, strategically located roadhouses enable welcome stops for fuel and supplies. It is a major trip with long distances and varied road conditions but one that opens access to many other roads and tracks that junction with the GCR.
DES11 $22.00 ea   Qty

Gulf Savannah Country   13. Gulf Savannah Country

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Gulf Savannah Country is varied, rugged and beautiful, but be warned, choose your time carefully as wet weather can be unforgiving. In the dry, the creeks and rivers are down sufficiently to not pose any dramas, roads are dusty and corrugated in most parts with several bulldust areas throughout. People at roadhouses and townships are welcoming and excellent fishing is available. Longest distance without fuel is a little over 300kms so should not cause concern for most. There are ample areas for bush camping along rivers and designated caravan parks and plenty to explore. This is crocodile country so care should always be exercised around waterways, however, there are some great swimming locations at Adels Grove, Lorella Springs and Mataranka. The climate is warm in the winter period ranging from 25-32?C during the day.
DES29 $22.00 ea   Qty

Gunbarrel Highway   14. Gunbarrel Highway

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
Not only is the Gunbarrel Highway a legendary track constructed by Len Beadell and his road crew, but is a challenge of endurance in its own right. Much of the track is heavily corrugated and a test bed for your 4wd?s nuts & bolts through vibration and harmonic torture. There are many areas with washouts, heavy sand, gravel and many outcrops of rocky sections. However, this is off-set by great bush camping at places like Geraldton Bore and Camp Beadell. As permits are not being granted by the Ngaanyatjarra Council for the abandoned section of the Gunbarrel, it is currently not accessible. Travel to and from the Great Central Road is via the Heather Highway, which also requires a permit to transit. The view from Mt Beadell is well worth the climb and houses a replica of Len Beadell?s theodolite at the lookout. Many 4 wheel drivers use the Gunbarrel as a short-cut from Central Australia to Wiluna and the Canning Stock Route and many want to drive it simply because of its reputation. What ever your reason, the Gibson desert is a unique environment that any serious traveller will just want to experience.

Kakadu National Park   15. Kakadu National Park

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
Travelling through Kakadu National Park is an experience not to be missed. Visit the Bowali Information Centre first for all your requirements on this vast region, then choose your direction. From wild rock formations to unbelievable Aboriginal artwork, the unique Yellow Water wetlands to the infamous crocodile infested waterways, this place has it all. Many of the roads are bitumen, but there are still many off-road tracks offering real untamed wilderness, incredible bushland and awe inspiring waterfalls. The Dry Season is the best time to see the area, offering warm, venture filled days.
DES13 $22.00 ea   Qty

The Kimberley   16. The Kimberley

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Kimberley is an area of north western Australia that floods with tourists and retirees during the dry season each year. It is a rugged landscape with numerous ranges and wonderful waterfalls. The Gibb River Road has mellowed over the years and now carries vast numbers of 4 wheel drives and road trains. This region offers a diversity in terraforma from the Bungle Bungle to the awe inspiring Mitchell Plateau, Cape Leveque to Mornington. Beautiful gorges, creek and river crossings and the lush surroundings of El Questro, provide an endless range of interest, walks and driving challenges. This is a captivating region, wild and remote with blue skies and warmth.
DES14 $22.00 ea   Qty

Tibooburra to Mount Isa   17. Tibooburra to Mount Isa

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
Tibooburra to Mount Isa is not so much a short cut, but an ?offroad? challenge via Station and main roads that offers a taste of the real outback country. Travelling through meandering hills, across vast open plains, through station gates and grids, livestock, bulldust and townships. It takes in Innamincka on the Cooper Creek, Boulia on the Burke River, through the Diamantina NP and the Lonely Pub at Duchess prior to entering the mining town of Mount Isa. There are plenty of kangaroos, emus, eagles, hawks and cattle to contend with. Good tyres and fuel range is essential, it is remote but provides a 4wd adventure beyond merely point A to B.
DES30 $22.00 ea   Qty

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
This is the tropical north where fern palms grow wild amongst the gum trees, blue skies reign and the days are warm and filled with plenty to see. North Simpson Desert   19. North Simpson Desert

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The North Simpson Desert, in this Map Guide, is primarily concerned with Dr. Cecil Madigan's track across the Simpson Desert from Old Andado to Birdsville. The Campsites of his expedition in 1939 are indicated with (Black dots) and numbered accordingly. This area is not for the faint hearted, it demands expertise in 4wd handling, recovery knowledge and experience in dealing with extremely remote conditions. Travellers should be very well prepared and self sufficient for any emergency. It is advisable to travel in a party of two or more vehicles. Some of the area crosses Aboriginal Land and permits should be applied for if travelling this direction. Camp 24 was not visited due to the particularly difficult means of getting there by 4x4. This track covers some beautiful yet rugged terrain, hard on vehicles and people combined. The ultimate 4wd experience through some of Australia's most pristine red desert country.
DES16 $22.00 ea   Qty

North Flinders Ranges   20. North Flinders Ranges

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The North Flinders Ranges is a spectacular region including the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges and Arkaroola-Mount Painter Wildlife Sanctuary. The hills are rugged and hold a mystical beauty surrounded by open and parched plains. With Hawker as the southern gateway and Blinman as the only small township within the ranges, several resorts and stations offer their hospitality to visitors including tours on private land. Areas like the Bunyeroo Valley and Geological Trail should not be missed, with Arkaroola offering some excellent 4wd tracks to explore. The area is rocky and dry but can tranform quickly with rain storms. There are many excellent camp locations and unique vistas to take in. Just give yourself some time to absorb the space as you travel about.
DES17 $22.00 ea   Qty

Oodnadatta Track   21. Oodnadatta Track

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Oodnadatta Track is a heritage corridor - the pioneering North/South road followed by aborigines, explorers, pastoralists, Afghan cameliers, Overland Railway and Telegraph lines. It embodies the history of travel throughout outback Australia and offers a unique experience through one of Australia's most diverse and geographically interesting landscapes. The rich colour and harshness of terrain, typified by the remoteness of the Australian Outback, encourages the spirited adventurer to discover the real beauty of this region. The track closely follows the paths taken by Stuart and Giles exploring inland Australia during the 1800's. The Sectioned Maps will help you find everything of interest along the Track and point out potential road cautions in advance, supported by visual references, for the benefit of your safety.

Oodnadatta to Alice Springs   22. Oodnadatta to Alice Springs

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Old Ghan Heritage Trail is rich in pioneer history where early trade routes and pastoral developers used markers like the Finke River and Chambers Pillar to guide their way north.
The Trail today closely follows, if not rides on top of, the Old Ghan Railway between Finke and Rodinga. As Oodnadatta was a major rail head of the time, this map guide follows the pathway from Oodnadatta up through Mt Dare, where alternative routes can be taken to Charlotte Waters. For those seeking further tracks north, the Old Andado Track offers another path to Alice Springs. Tracks throughout the region offer the traveller varied experiences of location and terrain.
DES19 $22.00 ea   Qty

The Otway Range   23. The Otway Range

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Otway Range is a beautiful natural forest & bushland paradise that has attracted 4 wheel drivers for decades. Although the tracks are not as hard core as they once were, they still provide great 4 wheel driving, particularly tracks like Denhams,Cowley and Harvey are well worth giving a go. Being close to major towns like Anglesea, Aireys Inlet, Lorne, Apollo Bay and Colac, makes venturing into this area advantageous. The range is cris-crossed with major roads that enable access to all these tracks, if gates are open. The pristine, dense vegetation of fern trees, eucalypts and lush undergrowth intersected with creeks, rivers and waterfalls offer weeks of exploration to experience and tests your ability at driving this magnificent area of Victoria.

The Pilbara   25. The Pilbara

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Pilbara region takes in some of Australia's most beautiful country. From rugged mountain ranges supplying mining companies with enormous volumes of iron ore to the pristine coastal waters of Ningaloo Reef and fabulous fishing locations. Deceptive as all this may be, the Pilbara is still a very remote area criss-crossed with roads and tracks from stations, mining, townships and national parks. Karajini NP and Millstream-Chichester NP offer incredible natural formations that need to be seen to be believed. The mining open cuts at Newman and Tom Price are staggering and offer a constant reminder of this huge industry via relentless iron ore trains, towing 236 trucks at 116 tons each, pulled by three powerful locomotives rolling 24/7. It is an ancient landscape, demanding but amazing, with plenty of blue skies and warm days. A mecca for tourists in all directions with great camping locations.
DES22 $22.00 ea   Qty

Simpson Desert   26. Simpson Desert

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Simpson Desert is a hazardous and remote location, yet attracts four wheel drivers and motorbike riders by the hundreds annually. The first successful crossing was made by Ted Colson in 1936 but was much later, in 1962, before the first motorised desert crossing was made by geologist Reg Sprigg with his family. Today, 4WD enthusiasts, adventurers, tourists and those seeking the challenges of the desert, traverse the 1100 sand dunes and many other tracks. Wild camels and dingos roam throughout the area with eagles overhead and large perentie seen on rare occasions. The Simpson Desert offers an insight into some of Australia?s toughest red sand dune country, however, such a trip should never be taken lightly. Travellers should be well prepared for such an adventure and must have adequate 4WD knowledge and recovery skills.

Snowy River   27. Snowy River

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Snowy River region in the Victorian High Country is a great place to visit during the warmer months of the year. There are lovely camping locations and specatular views over the mountain ranges with challenging 4wd tracks such as Bowens track and winding routes contouring the hills in climbs and descents. The bush is serine with many places to stop for a break and take in the natural beauty. McKillops Bridge is a major landmark with the Snowy River passing below. Generally the tracks and roads are relatively easy driving although around the hills can be narrow and winding with sharp bends. Incredible areas like Little River Gorge, highlight a 600m drop, one of the deepest gorges in Victoria. Orbost or Buchan with its beautiful caves, make great launching pads for this scenic region - well worth the experience.

Strzelecki Track   28. Strzelecki Track

Design Interaction; Using photography, track notes and mapping, the Outback Travellers Track Guide is a companion to sheet maps, offering a closer look at what is out there, where to find it and how to get there safely.
The Strzelecki Track was originally created by the cattle thief, Harry Redford, when he drove 1000 head of stolen cattle from Queensland along the Strzelecki Creek to Blanchewater Station, giving him the nickname, Captain Starlight. Although he was caught for his crime, he was not charged due to the audacious feat of blazing a new cattle stock route, making him a national hero of the day. The track was actually named in 1845 by Charles Sturt and the area around Innamincka became famous due to the tragic events of the Burke and Wills Expedition. Today the area is largely occupied by the Santos Gas and Oil fields which branch out from Moomba and appear in most areas throughout the Strzelecki and Sturt Stony Deserts.

The Tanami Road, sometimes referred to as a "track" is a major link between Central Australia and North West Western Australia, commonly known as the Kimberley. It is also the shortest route between these areas and is used by road trains and numerous four wheel drivers, holiday makers and retirees seeking to experience the remoteness of the Tanami Desert and travel a part of Australian history from the days of the early gold rush. The region is littered with termite mounds, rocky and sandy patches, sparse scrublands and the occasional hills to break the horizon.
